With Steam, that's all taken care of for you. With automatic game updates, hunting for patches and downloading from unorganized web sites is a thing of the past. On Steam, your games stay up-to-date by themselves. If you're a Mac and want to play your favorite games, don't worry. Steam brings PC’s biggest gaming platform and games to the Mac. Today we will quickly and easily show you how to install Steam on Mac so that you can play some of the most popular games online or offline, the choice is always yours. What Is Steam? Steam is an internet-based digital game distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and social networking platform developed by Valve Corporation.
Originally posted by jt:Hi, I just downloaded steam on Mac perfectly fine, but when I try to download any games I get an error saying 'an error occurred while installing game (connection time out).' I'm usually on PC and on the same wi-fi, so I'm not sure why the connection is timing out. I've been having this problem the past two days. I've tried it on three different macs.
Steam works fine, but installs and downloads don't work. I waited until late last night and was able to install dota 2, but today there was an update and had the same connection issue again. Seems to me like its an issue on Valve's end, but not sure if anyone has suggestions of fixes.
Things I've tried already: 1) Checking to make sure network is setup correctly (I was able to install at one point last night so network shouldn't be the issue). 2) Uninstalling and reinstalling Steam. Had no impact. 3) Going into application support, deleting all program files and then restarting steam to get it to reset. Continued to have the same problem. Note: I followed these directions 'exit Steam and go to the folder Users/username/Library/Application Support/Steam Delete all of the files in this folder except for SteamApps. Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and re-test the issue. Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games. Note: If you are using Lion please do the following to enable your Library folder: 1. Open Terminal 2. Type chflags nohidden /Library 3. Close Terminal You should see the Library folder available through the Go menu on the menu bar while holding down the option key.'
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Again, seems like its a problem on valve's side since its persisting on multiple machines, but would appreciate any thoughts anyway. Currently running OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 though I've tried it on a few different operating systems within mac.
